Description
Dog Breed: Spaniel / Mixed. *Clelia is a courtesy post and is not located at or affiliated with Paws Crossed Animal Rescue Socialization: Clelia greets everyone she meets with a wagging tail and a body wiggle! She has been introduced to men, women, children ages 5-16 and loves them all. We had our first BBQ with the whole family and she was happy as could be with all the attention she was getting. She is fine with other dogs, small, medium or large but loves the company of people even more. Clelia doesn't really choose to play with other dogs, but will lay comfortably with them. If another dog comes to you for attention, she will come right over and nudge her nose in there for the petting and love. A belly rub is her favorite. She has not had a chance to meet any cats, but I would be suprised if she had any reaction other than just leaving them to themselves. Training: Clelia knows to come when called, she will sit on her own right by your feet, or by your side without even asking her. In the home, she is calm, makes herself comfortable on the couch, will be right by your side most of the time. She will lay down by your feet if you are eating or working during the day. Clelia has made herself very comfortable in our home since the day she came. She just wants to be with you and be loved. When she first arrived we did use the crate for the first 3 nights. After that we realized she is perfectly fine out of the crate at all times. We have left her for longer periods of time and she has been wonderful. She does not chew anything, barks only if a stranger walks by but has learned "stop" when she barks and will do so readily. She is smart, sweet and a complete love. Activity requirements: Clelia does not really need a large fenced in yard to run in, she is perfectly happy strolling around the yard with us, or laying in the grass if we are outside. She would do fine with leash walks being her exercise. She has never attempted to climb up, or over our 4' fence, she doesn't want to be away from her people, she wants to be near them. Fence requirements: As above, a fenced yard is always nice when you want them to go out and explore, however she would do fine taking longer walks daily. Personality: If I could give a definition of Clelia, this is what it would say: Clelia, perfection to a tee, sweet, calm, gentle, loving, and very very cuddly. Kisses are her specialty! Health history: Clelia was found with a tumor on her mammary glands which was removed when she was first rescued. Following the biopsy, the vet decided that it would be best to remove all of her mammary chains to prevent any future issues, so she underwent a full mastectomy on both sides. She has recovered very well from her surgeries and she is now a healthy girl. She is spayed, microchipped, up to date on vaccinations and on monthly heartworm prevention. Her next leishmaniasis test will be due in July 2026. This dog originates from Greece where Leishmaniasis is endemic. They tested negative before coming to the USA, but the parasite can remain dormant in the system for many years, so potential adopters must be willing to commit to annual testing for the next 7 years. Typically, the test needs to be sent to a special lab, but any regular vet can draw the blood and send it to the lab. The cost of the test seems to vary widely by area, but is approximately $150-$250. or if your vet is willing to send the test to a veterinary college lab, cost can be as low as $80. Foster comments: Clelia is a gorgeous spaniel weighing in at 23lbs, the perfect size and weight for any family, and the perfect dog. She has the most gentle demeanor, loves her people, is wonderful with dogs of all sizes, and children are her favorite! If they are sitting down, she is there sitting with them. She has been the easiest and most loving pup since the first day she came into our home. She adjusted to us and our schedule in no time. Sleeps quietly through the night, we have to wake her up in the morning! Foster location: Yorktown Heights, NY Transport note: We are able to arrange volunteer transport to get dogs from their foster home to their adopter as long as the adopter and the foster are within a 1,000 mile radius of each other and the adopter is located in the USA. If the adopter is more than 1,000 miles from the foster home, adoption would only be possible if the adopter is willing to drive the distance beyond the 1,000-mile transport limit. Long distance adoptions may also be possible if the adopter is willing to pay for a flight for getting their dog from the foster home to their location if the foster feels this is an appropriate arrangement for the specific dog. Canadian adopters would have to drive into the USA to pick up their dog, as we do not transport outside of the USA.
