Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Frankie is a gorgeous red short hair purebred Dachshund. He is 6 years old, and about 15 pounds. He is potty trained, and neutered. Needs an experienced owner who can set boundaries for him. Frankie needs another dog companion. No children. No cats. He does need an outdoor space so he can spend time in the sun. He has issues with resource guarding. If he growls, let him be. Sleeps well through the night, and is crate trained. Really just wants a blanket to burrow under. The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets.
