Description
Dog Breed: Catahoula Leopard Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Honey, the mixed breed dog! We suspect Honey is some sort of Catahoula mix but are not entirely sure. Honey came into the Shelter as an owner surrender after she and the adoptive family just werenât the best fit for each other. In her home, Honey was noted to be friendly with people. She was around the grandchildren (but sometimes had difficulty containing her exuberance and would jump on them). Her previous family did observe that she is energetic and needs regular stimulation (physical and mental) to meet her needs. She went to doggy daycare as well as group walks with a local dog walking company which helped her. Honey was crate trained in her previous home but the crate should only be used for short absences. She is reported to be house trained (with appropriate potty breaks timed throughout the day). Honey has enjoyed socializing with other dogs in the previous home as well as during her time at the Shelter. A home with another dog may be a fit provided there is a meet and greet at the Shelter before adoption as well as management in the home after adoption. A home with felines or small animals is not recommended due to Honeyâs observed prey drive. From Friday, May 1st through Sunday May 10th, the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter is participating in Empty the Shelters. The adoption fee is reduced to $50 for all cats, dogs and rabbits in our care. Empty the Shelters is the nationâs largest funded adoption event centered around helping homeless pets find families by making adoption affordable for prospective pet owners. The Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter Foundation is now offering âPawsitivity Bucksâ with every dog adoption. This $200 training voucher is a way for newly adopted canines and their guardians to connect with local positive reinforcement based behavior consultants and get their relationship started off on the right paw! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.
