Dog Breed: Poodle (Miniature) / Mixed (medium coat). Meet Marco! Marco is an approximately three-and-a-half-years-old male Poodle mix, weighing around 17-pounds. Now fair warning, Marco is not your grandma's Poodle- this guy has energy! Marco is looking for an active family who can keep up with his zoomies! Marco has quite the story with us. He was originally found as a stray on the job site of our shelter director (smart guy knew where to go for help). Marco was too shy to come to the humans, so we had to humanely trap him. He is a street savvy guy and avoided the trap for a few days. Marco was dirty and matted and no owner came forward for him, so he became officially adoptable through Chi Town Rescue. A few weeks after coming to us though, Marco fell ill and was diagnosed with Distemper. He was so sick we weren't sure if he was going to make it, but Marco is a strong little guy, and has made a full recovery. Although the initial infection was months ago, and Marco shows no lingering signs of illness, his blood titer still shows a very low positive for Distemper. We have retested him several times and each time, the titer is lower, but not fully negative. The risk of contagion is extremely low (if at all), but with immuno-compromised dogs or unvaccinated dogs, there could potentially be a risk. Because of this, we are requiring that Marco goes home with a family who either has no other dogs, or other healthy and fully vaccinated dogs. We are also recommending he not go out to dog parks or other areas where there may be unvaccinated dogs, until he tests negative. Marco is social with other dogs and loves to show off his zoomies and growls while he shakes the toys. He's quite the character! With people, Marco is happy to run up to say hello and get some pets, before he zooms off again in search of his next adventure. Maybe Marco's next adventure will be with YOU?!
