Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (medium coat). Adoption Fee: $400. Online Adoption Application › Poppy, rescued from a shelter on her last day, was found with a logging chain around her neck, so her earliest days taught her to fear humans. Now around 8 months, she will do best in a home with at least one other dog of any size. She loves to learn from her pack, play and enjoy their company. She remains very timid in strange places (including the vet, where you may even have to carry her) and around new people. She is not aggressive at all but she has a serious bark that may intimidate small children not used to dogs. She loves walks and toys and the occasional collagen bone, and she aims to please her caregivers. Treat motivated, she knows "sit" but will benefit from additional training like any other puppy or young dog. She may need to relearn potty training in a new environment. She is sweet and lovable and just wants to be a good dog for her people.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
