Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (long coat). Check out our gorgeous Nero - a two year old long-coat shepherd. Despite not having the best start, he is a very happy boy who loves life. He’s a typical long-coat shepherd; affectionate, loving, playful, and above all, goofy. He likes other dogs, particularly females and is always very respectful. He knows basic commands and walks well on leash. He does have a high prey drive so definitely will need to go to a cat free home with a secure fenced in yard. Nero has medium energy and wholeheartedly enjoys his naps. He loves spending time in the yard and playing with his toys and balls. And loves car rides. Before Nero came to us, he had been abandoned at a rural gas station. For days he would go to people asking for help and trying to get in their car. After three days someone finally contacted animal control because we were told people had been hitting and kicking him. When he first arrived, he was in very bad physical and emotional shape - barely able to go up stairs because of his pain. After several visits to the vet and chiropractor, the swelling and pain he was feeling was gone. All through his ordeal, he was always good natured and gave little butter tongue kisses and is a very affectionate boy. Our dream is to find someone who will just lavish all the attention and love he deserves. Nero will need an experienced handler that has German shepherd ownership experience and a secure fenced in yard. Nero is neutered, up to date on vaccines. Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
