Description
Dog Breed: Plott Hound. Xena is a 3-year-old Plott Hound mix weighing 52 pounds. A delightful girl, she came to us from a family who didnât want her or her ten puppy litter. How sad! But of course thatâs where we came in. Xenaâs foster says she is sweet, affectionate, playful, great with other dogs and very food motivated. (Better keep a box of bones around the house!) This girl who has been treated for heartworm would make a great addition to your family! "You can read more about Xena's story here: .crossingpathsanimalrescue/rescue-stories/mom-knows-best (posted 11/1/25, ME) " " Adoption Fee: $395.00-- covers microchip, worming, all vaccines, monthly heart worm preventative, monthly tick/flea preventative, spaying/neutering, health certificate, and complete medical records. Transport Fee: $160.00-- We consider the transport to be of great importance and, as such, take particular care of the dogs during the trip. We make every effort to arrive with healthy and minimally stressed dogs. **It is rare that we know with certainty the ages or mixes that make up our dogs, but we do our best to be as accurate as possible based upon our experience. **

Overview:
The Plott Hound is a rugged, intelligent breed originating from the mountains of North Carolina, primarily bred for hunting large game like bear and wild boar. Known for their striking brindle coat, which can range from light tan to dark black, they are a medium-to-large dog with a muscular build, powerful legs, and a distinctive deep, resonant bay. Temperamentally, Plotts are loyal, courageous, and generally good-natured, displaying an affectionate side with their families. While they can be excellent companions for active families, their high energy levels and strong prey drive mean they require considerable exercise and secure containment. They are generally not well-suited for apartment living due to their need for space and propensity to vocalize. Health-wise, Plotts are a relatively hardy breed, though like many large dogs, they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, bloat, and eye conditions. Regular veterinary check-ups and a balanced diet are crucial for maintaining their well-being.
