Estimated Age: 7 months as of August 2026 Best Guess for Breed: Shepherd/terrier mix Weight: 14 lbs as of 8/2/26 - she is still growing! Currently available for adoption in the DC area. Follow my journey on Instagam maisysfostering Good With: Other dogs! Wisteria also lived with some foster kittens and did well. While that is promising, she has not lived with cats long term. She hasn't lived with kids to our knowledge. We are happy to discuss integration techniques with cats and kids with any interested adopters! Special Adoption Considerations: Wisteria is a bit shy right now and needs to go to a home with a welcoming resident dog who will show her the ropes! About Me: Wisteria is such a spunky, silly, shy little lady. She has so much personality packed into her tiny body. She can still be a little shy around new people but she literally blossoms as soon as another dog is around. If my dog is excited to see someone, Wisteria will go running up to them like “she says you’re ok so we can be best friends now!” The dog park is where she thrives!! As soon as I put the car in park she’s standing up staring at me very impatiently waiting to jump out and go running to the gates. She stops at the top of the hill on her way down to awoooo and announces her arrival. She loves dogs of all sizes and takes cues really well. She gets nervous when big dogs pounce on her, but she loves to wrestle with dogs of any size. She’s also learned to love walks! She’s always trotting up ahead looking for new friends and things to sniff. If she does get spooked, she runs to my dog and walks by her side for a few seconds until she decides it’s safe enough to walk ahead again. She loves rolling in grass, bushes, mulch, gravel, a pile of leaves, you name it she’ll roll in it. She sleeps in the crate through the night and takes long naps during the day, but she also loves sleeping in the bed. Wisteria likes to sleep right next to my head and cuddle up against me. Even though she sometimes acts afraid of me if I walk too fast inside, at night every time I move over to get personal space she has to move too so she can stay near me. She loves to cuddle and is a pro at getting cozy. She will instantly find the nearest pillow or blanket that she can curl up against and zonk right out. Wisteria is the BEST puppy. She’s easily redirected, is a pro napper, signals to go outside, loves other dogs, entertains herself with toys, and is pretty much down to do anything you and your dog are doing. She is the goofiest, sweetest girl who will be such a great addition to any family that is lucky enough to scoop her up! Wisteria’s Favorite Things: Other dogs!! She loves to wrestle, run, play tug, and end the day cuddling with my resident dog. SAND! She gets the silliest zoomies when she steps on sand and bounces back and forth Announcing Herself - Wisteria has the cutest awoo possibly ever. Whenever we arrive at the dog park she stands at the gate and awoos while everyone looks and laughs. She also awoos any time one of her friends arrives!! Wisteria’s Favorite Adventures: Daily Dog Park Visits - she loves playing with dogs of all sizes! She's very submissive and takes cues well The River! She loved swimming with the other dogs and sitting on the rocks Car rides - She loves sitting with her head on the arm rest but has started to get brave and will look out the window! She's a very good passenger Neighborhood Walks - Wisteria loves a nature walk!! She trots up ahead of us with her ears up always on the lookout and ready to make a new friend. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
