Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Roscoe was adopted from the animal shelter in September 2025. We estimate he will be two in September 2026. He is a sweet boy full of energy. We have a baby on the way and with his size as well as required attention he would be happier in a new home. He has been through 8 weeks of training with Three Lakes Dog Co. His trainer said I would recommend an only Dog household or if it is somebody with another dog it’s a submissive female. I also would recommend a home without Cats. Three Lakes also said to let the potential new owners know that they will offer 1 week free tuneup for training and they will work with the new owners so they know how to handle him and work with him. He is a sweet boy with lots of energy and unfortunately we don’t have the capacity to give him what he needs. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
