Description

Dog Breed: Chihuahua (medium coat). Make no mistake- this small girl has BIG feelings and isn't shy about sharing them. She's a bit overwhelmed with all the fuss and noise of the shelter- she keeps trying to regulate all of it. She'd really like it if everyone could hush up a bit, thanks. Tina is also a bit wary of new people. She wants to make friends but isn't super confident. Going slow, allowing her time to adjust and proving that you're not there to trap her was a big key to getting her to feel comfortable enough to sit in my lap. As soon as she felt overly confined she escaped to the corner. Time, patience and consistency will be key to winning her over. Onceyou do- she will be a loyal friend and protector. She's small enough to be a `come everywhere` pup, but spicy enough to act as bodyguard. She's estimated to be about 5yrs old, so she's past the puppy phase, but has a lot of spunk in her still. She's really looking for humans that make her feel safe, respect her needs and appreciate her expressive nature. If that might be you- come on in and meet tiny Tina for yourself. Just go slow. And provide bum scratches. She loved those.

Overview:

The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
