Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever. This pup will be available to meet starting on 5/16 Yes… his name is Barbecue, and yes… he is that good. Consider this your official invitation to the cookout… and Barbecue is the main attraction. Barbecue is a 7 month old neutered black lab weighing 41 pounds of goofy, sweet, tennis ball–obsessed perfection. This handsome teen pup is basically a lab lover’s dream companion… with a little extra sizzle. Let’s get one thing straight—tennis balls are his whole personality. His best friend? Tennis ball. His hobby? Tennis ball. His life motto? “If it bounces, I’m on it.” He’s ready to grill you with his fetch skills and will absolutely relish every second of playtime. Barbecue is great with dogs both big and small and loves having playmates to romp around with. He’d thrive in a home with another dog (or two!) or an active family who can keep up with his fun-loving energy. In the shelter, he’s been a little more on the quiet and reserved side, but once he warms up, his goofy personality really starts to smoke. He’s still working on leash skills, but he’s a quick learner and eager to please—honestly, he’s already a well-done good boy. He arrived as an unclaimed stray, but now he’s ready to meat his forever family and finally ketchup on all the love he’s been missing. Barbecue would love a home with a yard, a pile of tennis balls, and people who are ready to have a loyal, loving, slightly ridiculous best friend by their side. Fair warning: he will absolutely steak a claim on your heart They were rescued from a kill shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
