Description
Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Lucy is a 35 lb Plott Hound mix with the sweetest soul and the cutest floppy, silly personality. After spending 7 long weeks in the shelter, she’s still incredibly trusting, affectionate, and eager to love her people. She’s the kind of dog who wants to follow you from room to room, curl up nearby, and be part of whatever you’re doing. Lucy has a playful side too — she loves toys, backyard zoomies, and exploring outside — but she’s also gentle, sensitive, and wonderfully cuddly. Lucy is fully house trained, crate trained, and very quiet in the home. She has excellent house manners overall and is already learning quickly with positive reinforcement and treats. She knows “sit,” takes treats very gently, and is eager to keep learning. She walks nicely on leash, though the outside world can still feel overwhelming for her at times, so she’ll need a patient adopter who can continue helping her build confidence. Despite being a little shy in new environments, she’s friendly and allows people to greet her politely on walks. She does well with mellow dogs and has been respectful with cats. Lucy would likely thrive with another calm, polite dog, but she could also be happy as your one-and-only as long as she gets lots of love and attention. She would do best in a home with a yard where she can safely explore, play, and relax in the sunshine. Lucy is medium energy — happy to go for walks and adventures, but equally content lounging beside you at home. One of her foster’s favorite things about her is how sweet and gentle she is, even after everything she’s been through. She’s learning quickly, gaining confidence every day, and is ready to find a family who will help her continue to blossom into the amazing dog she’s meant to be. Dogs are not placed on a first-come, first-serve basis. We strive to find the perfect home for each animal. Applications may take up to 48 hours to process. All CAWS animals are fixed, microchipped, and vaccinated. Her adoption fee is $200. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
