He was found abandoned near a soccer field in Arlington — beaten, terrified, emaciated, covered in wounds, suffering from worms and severe skin infections, and has some vision loss in one eye. Rescuers believe he had been used as a bait dog. Despite unimaginable cruelty, Chance greeted the people who saved him with gentle kisses and trust. The kind people who found him stepped up to foster him, and since then he has made amazing progress. Chance is now neutered, gaining healthy weight, and receiving treatment for heartworms. At only 2 years old and about 60 pounds, he still has his whole life ahead of him — he just needs someone willing to love him. Chance has the sweetest personality. He loves belly rubs, cuddles, and being close to people. He is kennel trained and gets along well with other dogs, though he should not be in a home with cats. After everything he has endured, Chance deserves safety, comfort, and a family who will show him what love truly feels like. Will you help Chance find the happy ending he deserves? Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
