Description
Dog Breed: Cattle Dog / Mixed (short coat). Paw Parent facilitated Cowboy's rescue from the Lancaster shelter in 2014. He was adopted by a couple that gave him a stable loving home until they ended in divorce this year and poor Cowboy became the innocent victim. Paw Parent was contacted and we welcomed him with open arms. How could we not? He is a 14 year old treasure, incredibly sweet with not a mean bone in his body. His greeting when I come home is so heartwarming, he is so overjoyed that he literally serenades me with a beautiful song. He gets along with all the dogs here, is gentle, mellow and an absolute delight to have around. Unfortunately he cannot come to adoptions with us because he gets car sick, but otherwise he is totally healthy. He is so deserving of a second chance of a home where he can live out his golden years. Will it be yours? He is neutered, microchipped and current on all his vaccines. Please call us at 661-724-0642 or email us pawparentgmail if you would like to meet him.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
