Description

Dog Breed: Great Pyrenees (long coat). Hi! I'm Skip, like "skip to the good part," which is me! I have soft white fur with some gray spots, greenish brown eyes, and a speckled belly! I weight about 25lbs right now but will probably weigh between 75-85lbs when I grow up. I'm almost 3 months old. My foster mom tells me I'm a handsome boy! I am friendly with everyone, great with kids too! My hobbies include chasing things, playing with my sister, biting the big dog's tail, and learning how to do new tricks. So far, I know how to 'Sit' and get into my crate, when treats are involved. I'm still learning to go potty outside, but I'm getting better every day. I'm also getting better at car rides; I get a little anxious and will run around the car. Still working on my leash manners. I'm not only handsome, I'm also funny. I make my foster mom laugh when I eat, I walk in circles around my bowl. I'm currently seeking a forever family. Qualifications include giving me belly rubs on demand and telling me I'm a 'very good boy' at least 17 times a day. In return, I offer security services (I will bark at suspicious leaves for you) and give out complimentary kisses (slightly slobbery, no extra charge). Adopt me, and I promise to skip right into your life like I've always been there. -- Skip is currently in a SPIN Rescue foster home in DFW area of Texas. Out of area applicants are responsible for arranging their own transportation as we don't provide it. Skip will officially be available for pick up May 22nd, but we are taking adoption applications now. His adoption fee is $300. His forever family MUST have another dog to play with him and teach manners. Apply to adopt at .spinrescue

Great Pyrenees

A.K.A.: Pyrenean Mountain Dog, Patou, Chien de Montagne des Pyrénées, Pyrenean, Big White Dog, Bear Dog, Gentle Giant, Great Pyr, Pyr
Overview:

The Great Pyrenees is a majestic and ancient breed, originating in the Pyrenean mountains between France and Spain, where they served as formidable livestock guardians. Physically, they are large, powerful dogs, easily recognized by their thick, double coat, typically white (though sometimes marked with badger, grey, or tan), and a distinctive "double dewclaw" on their hind legs. Despite their imposing size, their temperament is generally calm, gentle, and remarkably patient, making them excellent companions. They possess a natural protectiveness, which translates to a watchful eye over their families and property. While loving and tolerant with children, their size and barking tendencies make them less suited for small apartment living; a home with a yard is ideal. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, patellar luxation, and certain eye conditions, emphasizing the importance of responsible breeding. Their independent nature also means they require consistent, positive reinforcement training.
