Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. Available for Adoption — Meet Darrell! Darrell is absolutely adorable, sweet, kind, and as gentle as can be. This lovable pup has a heart full of affection and is searching for a forever family to share his life with. Darrell is smart, eager to learn, and always wants to make his people proud. He loves playtime with his dog friends, enjoys his toys and bones, and has a great time exploring the outdoors. But his favorite thing of all? Climbing into your lap for cozy puppy naps. This cuddly boy loves giving kisses, soaking up affection, and being close to his family. He’s the perfect mix of playful and loving. Darrell is currently learning basic commands and doing great with: Come, Sit, Shake/Give Paw, Down, Off, Wait & Leave it. Darrell is: 80% crate trained, 80% potty trained, Great with kids, cats & all dogs. Darrell is currently being treated for Ehrlichia (Tick Fever not contagious to humans or other animals). Treatment is 28 days of Doxycycline. Treatment ends 5/30 & nothing further is needed. Medication will be provided and paid for by GTDR. Darrell is ready to find a loving forever home where he can continue to grow, learn, and be cherished as part of the family. He has had 2 vet visits, is neutered, Microchipped, UTD on all vaccinations, had a 4 DX test (testing for Lyme disease and two types of tick-borne illnesses), flea/tick/heartworm prevention (Nexgard Plus), 2 dewormings, and a fecal test. Adopters will receive all original paperwork, a 14-day health guarantee, a collar, harness, leash, seatbelt lock, and a week's worth of food. We operate on a first-come, first-served basis and are by appointment only. We are located in Mesa, AZ near Gilbert/Brown & offer flexible hours for meet-and-greet appointments 7 days/week. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
