Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler. Meet Freckles, our adorable cattledog mix! Freckles is an absolute sweetheart, always happiest in the company of others. However, in her early life, she had very limited exposure to novel places and things, so she is still learning how to navigate the big world around her. Although she has made tremendous progress with us, she still gets easily overwhelmed and would benefit from someone who will be patient and gentle with her as she learns. A typical day with Freckles includes lounging with her chews and getting tons of attention and belly rubs from her people! But don't let her gentle side fool you, she is still quite the energetic and playful pup - in her own unique way! She thrives with routine and will be most comfortable in familiar settings, including easy, brief walks in quiet areas that she is accustomed to. If you are willing to put in the time to help guide Freckles while she adjusts and learns, she will be an amazing, loving companion for life. Her sweet soul is well worth the effort! Freckles is available by appointment only. Please call the Behavior Helpline at 831-264-5422 to learn more and schedule an appointment to meet her!

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
