Description
Dog Breed: Airedale Terrier (medium coat). Thank you for stopping by to see me! Please fill out an application to set up a private meeting. Roy is a lovable, loyal Airedale Terrier with a big personality and an even bigger heart. He adores his people and is happiest when he gets to be part of your world, whether that means playing ball, going for car rides, hanging out around the house, or curling up nearby after a busy day. He has a great balance of affectionate and independent. Sometimes he wants to sleep close to his person, and other nights he’s perfectly content snoozing downstairs on the couch. He has also done well being left loose in the house while his foster is gone for a long work shift, which is a huge plus for a dog his size. Roy is smart, goofy, playful, obedient, and eager to please. He knows sit, down, outside, and go potty, and he loves toys, fetch, non-rawhide chews, and stuffies he can proudly destroy. He can pull on leash, but he is making progress and has attended several full-day training sessions to help build his confidence around other dogs. Continued structure and follow-through will be important for him. Roy does have a history of anxiety and can be fearful of thunderstorms, loud noises, some men, and other dogs. His prior owner had him on medication, and he has already been successfully weaned down to a half dose, with the goal of continuing that progress as appropriate. Because of his dog fear/reactivity, Roy would do best as the only dog in his home, where he can be loved, spoiled, and given the time and confidence-building he deserves. That said, Roy has shown he can surprise everyone. He did great with a mobile groomer, handled a vet appointment with other dogs present, and is relaxed when visiting the home of his foster’s parents where he greets them, explores, naps, and settles in beautifully. Roy is a handsome, affectionate big guy who gets compliments wherever he goes. He is looking for a patient, committed home that will continue helping him feel safe, confident, and loved. In return, Roy will give you his whole heart — because once you’re his person, his world is you. Please note that some of our dogs are obtained from shelters, surrendered to our care, or released from breeders. Each animal's bio is based on our experience of the animal within our care, an educated guess based on physical characteristics, temperament and information shared. Each dog receives basic grooming when coming into rescue, but for some dogs they have not received grooming attention until recently and grooming may be required shortly after adoption. This will be at the adopter’s expense, so we encourage you to research the breed and be prepared for grooming expenses. Underdog cannot guarantee hypoallergenic or non-shedding qualities of any dogs in our rescue. Some of the animals come from situations where they are lacking experience in a home and confidence in humans. In turn, they require another companion dog and/or a fenced in yard in their forever home in order for them to feel safe. If you are interested in a particular dog whose bio states those needs and do not currently have them, please understand that your home might not be the right fit. Please use the filter on our Adoptable Dogs page to find the perfect match for your home. ***Be sure to check your spam/junk folder as sometimes our emails end up there*** If you have other questions about me you can email Underdog Rescue at <inquiriesunderdogrescuemn> ADOPTION EVENTS: Adoption events are updated at the top of each dogs animals' as their foster home signs up. Check back for updates on which events they will be attending. If an event is not listed within their bio above, the animal is not planning to attend. Please understand that all of our pets are in volunteer foster homes and sometimes "life" happens and the foster family cannot make it to their scheduled adoption event. If you are traveling from a far distance to meet a specific animal, please understand we cannot guarantee event attendance. We recommend filling out an application and we will set up a private appointment. Private appointments are only scheduled after an application is submitted and approved. ADOPTION PROCEDURE: The first step in our process is to complete an online adoption application on our website: .underdogrescuemn/adoptionprocess/ Note: In most circumstances Underdog Rescue will only adopt within 60 miles of Minneapolis, MN. All of our foster animals can be seen by appointment with an approved adoption application. Contact us at .underdogrescuemn/contact-us/ if you have further questions. FOSTER CARE: All of our animals are fostered in individual homes or doggie daycare facilities. While they are in our care, they are part of our families and given lots of love. We work on training, crate-training and socialization prior to adoption, but each bio is written by the foster as they see them, in their home. Each animal's behavior is evaluated and we have a sense of its temperament and personality, but it cannot be guaranteed. We look for adopters who will give each animal the wonderful life and permanent home that he or she deserves in time and with patience. If you have an interest and ability to be a foster home, please visit our website .underdogrescuemn/foster-applications and fill out a foster application. NUTRITION: Nutrition is vital to the rehabilitation and life-long health of our pets. All of our foster animals are fed a premium diet such as NutriSource, Canidae, Orijen, Nature's Variety, Fromm, Pure Vita, Stella and Chewy's, Primal, or balanced raw diet. All adopters are required to continue providing premium diets for the life of the animal. YOU CAN HELP: Not able to foster or adopt right now? Please consider sponsoring an Underdog. Breed overview
Airedale Terrier
A.K.A.: King of Terriers, Waterside Terrier, Bingley Terrier, Airedale, Aire, Airedale Hound, Working Airedale, Show Airedale
Overview:
The Airedale Terrier, often called the "King of Terriers," is the largest of the terrier breeds, originating from the Aire Valley in Yorkshire, England. Bred initially to hunt otters and rats, they possess a distinctive dense, wiry coat, typically a tan and black saddle pattern, requiring regular grooming. Physically, they are strong and athletic, with a noble and alert expression. Temperamentally, Airedales are known for their intelligence, boundless energy, and spirited personality. While loyal and protective, their independent nature means they thrive with consistent training and early socialization. They are generally good with children and can be wonderful family companions for active households that can provide ample exercise and mental stimulation. Their energy levels make them less suitable for small apartment living unless daily, vigorous outdoor activity is guaranteed. Health-wise, they are a relatively robust breed, but like many larger breeds, can be prone to hip dysplasia, certain cancers, and skin allergies. Prospective owners should be prepared for their lively antics and strong will, but will be rewarded with an incredibly devoted and engaging companion.
