Description

Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). Hi, I’m Rex. I’m a sweet, 2 year old, 55 pound, loving boy who adores gentle pets and quiet cuddles. I can be a little shy and nervous at first, but I warm up with patient people who move slowly and speak kindly. I’ve been through some tough times, but I’m feeling a lot better now and I’m ready to give all my love to my forever family!! I walk amazingly great on a leash and enjoy my daily strolls. I’m fully crate trained and feel safe in my cozy spot. I’m also potty trained! If I am with you outside without a leash on, I will walk near you and come to you when you call. I really, really like to be around my people. I am not required to have a fence. I am such a love bug, will you please bring me to your home and keep me forever? When my foster mom loves on me, I light up and eat all the treats she gives me! When I learn to trust you and that you want me forever, I am yours. I haven’t been around kids much, but I’m calm and I don’t think I’d have issues with them. My foster mom has cats and I’m not interested in them; I’d much rather relax beside her. I am learning my basic manners and play well with my fur brothers and sisters as they are helping me get my confidence up. If adopting Rex sounds like the best thing in the world, please contact your adoption coordinator. If you do not yet have an adoption coordinator, please complete an adoption application at .freedomgermanshepherdrescue . Rex is being fostered outside of Charlotte, NC.

German Shepherd Dog

A.K.A.: Alsatian, Alsatian Wolf Dog, Shepherd Dog, GSD, Deutscher Schäferhund, Schäferhund, Berger Allemand, Pastore Tedesco, Perro de Pastor Alemán, Alsatian Dog
Overview:

The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
