Foster Home Feedback 5/20/2026 Foster Feedback: I've been fostering Hermes for a couple weeks now and he definitely shows golden retriever vibes. His favorite thing in the world, other than people, is his tennis ball. He does wonderful on walks and is always curious to meet other people or dogs. No walk is complete without holding the ball the entire time, and this is a task he does with great pride. Hermes also does well at home, and he settles in nicely while I'm at work after a couple of minutes, and is always happy and tail wagging to see me when I get back. He is potty trained and never had an accident while I've been gone. Hermes can be perfectly content chomping on a ball for hours by himself, but he'll let you know when it's time for some indoor fetch. He also does wonderfully with nail trimming, and loves car rides. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
