Dog Breed: Terrier / Shepherd / Mixed. Meet Casper! Casper is a loving 1-year-old Terrier/Shepherd mix weighing approximately 46 pounds who is searching for a forever home of his own. He was surrendered to Rockwall Adoption Center after his previous family became overwhelmed with too many animals, and now he's ready for a fresh start with a family that can give him the time, love, and stability he deserves. Casper may be a little different from other dogs you meet because he is deaf, but he has not let that slow him down one bit. He's a smart, adaptable boy who is learning to navigate the world beautifully and continues to thrive every day. According to his foster family, Casper does wonderfully with cats, dogs, and children of all ages. He walks great on a leash, is crate trained, and does well free roaming when his people are home. He's an affectionate, happy dog who would love a family willing to continue helping him grow and succeed through patience, consistency, and positive reinforcement. Casper is currently living in a foster home, so an approved online adoption application is required prior to scheduling a meet and greet. His adoption fee is $125. RAC completes this procedure at the age of 12 weeks. If you are adopting a pet under the age of 12 weeks or an animal that has not yet been spayed or neutered, you will be required to return the pet to our facility on the agreed upon date set at the time of adoption. This policy is non-negotiable and violation of this health code is a criminal offense.

A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
