Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Tango’s Story Tango was adopted from the Oakland County Animal Shelter in August 2024 and has been living in an apartment home since then. He’s adjusted well to that lifestyle and enjoys getting out to stretch his legs and run in larger open spaces. He’s had positive experiences at dog parks and doggy daycare. Not much is known about his previous life – he was taken in as a stray. Tango is a trained and capable dog who has completed group classes and a board-and-train program. He is e-collar trained and has good leash and house manners. He is very quiet, barely ever barking at noises. Trained commands: place, sit, down, touch (nose to palm), heel, roll over, turn around, paw, and “through” (standing between your legs). He’s also worked on sit stay and down stay with recall and does well in a low distraction environment. He’s very food-motivated, which makes continued training both effective and fun. He loves all dog treats plus cheese and meat. Daily Life & Favorites Eats: Taste of the Wild Pacific Stream with Smoked Salmon Salmon oil on top for coat Doesn’t enjoy fruits or vegetables Likes plain Greek yogurt No known food allergies Big fan of chew time—bully sticks or durable chews are a must Enjoys leisurely walks with lots of sniffing, training time, and opportunities to run Fully potty trained, accidents have only ever happened if he wasn’t feeling well Loves to sleep and relax in crate when human is home He does have a playful, slightly mischievous side and may test boundaries now and then—but responds well to redirection. Squirrels, rabbits, and other dogs excite him, and he will pull if he notices it before you do. Tango tolerates bath time and nail trims. His coat is easy to maintain in winter, but shedding is more prevalent in the summer. Tango is low energy and easygoing at home, he will sleep and relax all day if you let him. He’s flexible with feeding schedules and doesn’t immediately finish his food, more of a grazer. Social Behavior Tango can be social, but benefits from slow introductions. Once he’s comfortable with you, he always wants to be close. Has worked through some dog and people reactivity. Not perfect yet but continues to improve with guidance. His reactivity is believed to be based in fear and uncertainty, not aggression. He’s protective of his person. Best with an owner who can provide structure and anticipate triggers then set him up for success No experience with small children or babies. He has a playful side that comes out in the form of zoomies outside, playing with stuffy toys, or ‘wrestling’ with his human. Anxiety & Support Needs Tango thrives in a home where he has companionship. He does experience significant separation anxiety, so he’ll do best with someone who: - Has another confident dog to keep him company, or - Is home often **** Breed: Pitbull Mix **** Pet Link: .nokillnetwork/adoption/pet_detail.php?petid=2197840&flag=1

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
