Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Meet Ruben, the 6 month old gray Pitbull! This energetic young pup is ready to take on the world. Ruben came to us as a stray, so we donât have any previous history for him. At the shelter is has proven himself to be a lovable and playful guy, with plenty of puppy energy and eagerness. He'll need lots of physical and mental stimulation in his new home, and plenty of toys to keep his mouth occupied! He will need some help learning skills like potty training, walking on a leash, and redirecting his mouth onto toys, but luckily he seems to be very food motivated, and seems to do well with other dogs... those who'll tolerate a puppy's foolishness will be valuable helpers in teaching him good social skills and and to use a soft mouth! If youâre ready for a playful pup to jump into your life, come down and meet Ruben today! Ruben is available for preadoptionâcome meet him, fall in love, and take him home after his neuter surgery! Please note: Our Santa Cruz locationâs Shelter hours are 11-6pm, 7 days a week! Although clients can walk through and see any animals in their kennels during open hours, we end âmeet and greetsâ (aka meeting an animal out of the kennel) at 4:30pm every day. If youâd like to meet an animal out of the kennel, please arrive before 4:00pm to allow for time to discuss individual animals and meet them.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
