Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet Bean — the New Kid With the Big Lab Heart. Bean is just under a year old and already overflowing with that classic sweet, goofy Lab energy. He’s an outgoing, people‑loving boy who thinks every human is his new best friend. We’re working on his manners (because enthusiasm is hard to contain when you’re this happy), but he’s eager to learn and loves attention. What we know so far:Around 1 year old — still very much a fun, bouncy kid friendly with all people — social, sweet, and loves being included working on manners — he’s smart and catching on quickly Dog & cat testing in progress — we’re actively socializing him to see how he does Brand‑new arrival — just settling in and already stealing heartsBean is the kind of dog who brings sunshine into a room. If you’re looking for a young, loving Lab boy who’s ready to grow into the best version of himself, Bean is your guy. Www.barktownrescue/adopt Bean's adoption fee is $175 The shelter software system requires that we choose a predominant breed or breed mix for our dogs. Visual breed identification in dogs is unreliable so for most of our dogs we are only guessing at the dog's predominant breed or breed mix. We strongly encourage you to select your new pet by looking at each dog's individual personality and pet qualities rather than relying on a breed label that is only our best guess. Our adoption fees vary from $150 and up. All of our dogs are up to date on vaccines, heart worm preventives, and flea/tick medication, and will be spayed/neutered prior to adoption. Portions of your adoption fee also help care for the sick and injured animals that we take in. Thank you for supporting us and considering a rescue dog!

Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
