Description
Dog Breed: Boxer (short coat). Meet Sierra and Summit These two were surrendered to a small rural shelter where their chances of adoption were heartbreakingly slim. Thankfully, a local rescuer saw them, shared their story with us, and we were able to arrange transport to safety. When they arrived, their white fur showed evidence of one of the worst flea and tick infestations we’ve ever seen. They immediately got baths, treatment, and plenty of TLC. Despite everything they’ve been through, both soaked up their spa day — especially the ear rubs and cleaning They are incredibly sweet, squishy, loving dogs who deserve homes where they’ll always be cherished family members. ✨ Summit is 2 years old, healthy, neutered, up to date on vaccinations, and ready for adoption now. ✨ Sierra is also 2 years old and currently undergoing heartworm treatment. She will be spayed afterward and should be ready for adoption at the end of June. We believe Sierra may be deaf, but she reads expressions so beautifully that it’s honestly hard to tell. They do NOT need to be adopted together — but they DO need homes where they will never know neglect again. A.K.A.: Deutscher Boxer, German Boxer, Dutch Boxer, Boxer dog, Boxy, Boxerman
Overview:
The Boxer is a medium-sized, short-haired dog breed of German origin, known for its distinctive appearance and vibrant personality. Physically, Boxers possess a strong, athletic build with a characteristic square head, an undershot jaw, and often a docked tail and cropped ears (though these practices are becoming less common). Their short, glossy coat typically comes in fawn or brindle, often with white markings. Temperamentally, Boxers are renowned for being incredibly loyal, intelligent, and energetic, making them fantastic companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and can be playful and patient with children, making them excellent family pets. While their energy levels require regular exercise, their adaptability means they can adjust to apartment living if their activity needs are consistently met. However, potential owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to some cancers, heart conditions like cardiomyopathy, and hip dysplasia, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
