Description
Dog Breed: Unknown breed. Meet Sierra and Summit These two were surrendered to a small rural shelter where their chances of adoption were heartbreakingly slim. Thankfully, a local rescuer saw them, shared their story with us, and we were able to arrange transport to safety. When they arrived, their white fur showed evidence of one of the worst flea and tick infestations we’ve ever seen. They immediately got baths, treatment, and plenty of TLC. Despite everything they’ve been through, both soaked up their spa day — especially the ear rubs and cleaning They are incredibly sweet, squishy, loving dogs who deserve homes where they’ll always be cherished family members. ✨ Sierra is also 2 years old and currently undergoing heartworm treatment. She will be spayed afterward and should be ready for adoption at the end of June. We believe Sierra may be deaf, but she reads expressions so beautifully that it’s honestly hard to tell. They do NOT need to be adopted together — but they DO need homes where they will never know neglect again. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
