Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier / Mixed (short coat). Meet Athanos! Athanos is a friendly and goofy dog who tends to be a bit stoic at first but warms up nicely with time. He enjoys playing with tennis balls, going on walks, and interacting with squeaky toys. He is food‑motivated and responds well to positive reinforcement. His previous owner reported that he lived with both a baby and a toddler, and all interactions were positive. He also has a positive history living with another dog. In our care, he has shown that he can be dog selective and may do best with mellow, similar‑sized dogs, particularly females or larger dogs. Due to his history of prey‑drive behavior, we suggest homes without small dogs, cats, or other small animals. He knows several cues, including sit, come, shake, bed, kennel, potty, and out. His prior owner reported that he is both housebroken and crate trained.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
