Description

Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Brian is a 19 lbs purebred black and tan short hair Dachshund 3 years old. He is a sweet, loyal companion who loves spending time with his person. He wants to bond with one person, a woman. He strongly prefers women. He's fine with men but he will bond with the human female. He is copacetic with one or two calm dogs his size but no "pack type situations." No little kids, he can't deal with the unpredictable and loud nature of little ones. He has been great with the cats in his foster home, he will chase and play with them gently if they initiate it. Brian barks a fair amount when there is noise outside the home so no apartments bc that could present a problem for you. We think he needs a single family home with a yard If you are an experienced dachshund owner, all these quirks will seem normal to you. He forms a strong bond with his human, and will be a devoted best friend for life. Brian's favorite things include walks to the park, relaxing at home watching TV, and anything involving food. He is crate trained. For his comfort and success in a new home, Brian should be fed separately from other pets and approves of older kids (12 and up.) Overview:

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
