Description

Dog Breed: Dachshund (short coat). Approx. DOB: 5/16/23 Approx Weight: 11 Lbs Adoption Fee: $325 includes a 2 week trial to ensure everyone's happiness! Franklin is a happy typical little Dachshund! He loves giving kisses, cuddling and nibbling on ears. He is a toy fanatic and a confident little guy. Like most dachshunds, he loves to burrow under blankets and sit on or against his favorite person. He sleeps well in his crate and enjoys walks. Franklin has been around several small dogs and one large dog, and he has done well with all of them. He has not been around a cat, so we don’t know how he is around cats. Franklin is still working on housebreaking, so his new family will need to continue working with him on that. I have been neutered, vaccinated, heartworm tested negative, wormed and microchipped. If you are interested in adopting me, please complete the adoption application located at .furrykidsrefuge/adoptadog and a dedicated volunteer will get back to you as soon as possible. Furry Kids' Refuge is in need of good quality dog and puppy food with meat as the first ingredient. You can drop off donations at our weekly adoption events at the Lee's Summit Petco (1860 NW Chipman Road, Lee's Summit, MO), Saturdays only from 11am to 2:00 p.m. Donations are tax deductible as allowed by law. Overview:

The Dachshund, affectionately known as the "wiener dog," is a fascinating breed originating in Germany, primarily bred to hunt badgers and other burrowing animals. Their most distinctive physical characteristic is their long, low-slung body and short, muscular legs, a feature perfectly adapted for tunneling. They come in three coat types – smooth, longhaired, and wirehaired – and various sizes, from miniature to standard. Temperamentally, Dachshunds are known for being courageous, curious, and often quite playful, with a surprising amount of energy. While they are intelligent, their independent nature can make training a delightful challenge. Their small size and relatively low exercise requirements make them well-suited for apartment living, and they can be wonderful companions for families, though early socialization is key, especially with children and other pets. Regarding health, their unique body shape predisposes them to intervertebral disc disease (IVDD), so careful handling and weight management are crucial.
