Description
Dog Breed: Boxer. Vibe Check! Big Dog Energy! ATHENA is the newest addition to the Houston Boxer Rescue gang. This girl is gorgeous with beautiful dark brindle coloring! Athena says she's too pretty for school. She would rather hang out with her people and get pampered all day long. This big girl is absolute chill and even a bit lazy. She is quite friendly, rarely barks, does not jump on people, but WILL give you sweet slober kisses and try to share your food. She loves to follow you around but is also politely behaved in a kennel when it's time. Give her an oversized plump dog bed and she’ll love you for it! She instantly fit in with the fosters two dogs both medium and small size that have similar energy. She LOVES her toys...and socks so pick them up! What can she say? She likely was a street pup for a while because she is underweight at the moment but she should get around 80lbs with some proper meals in her belly. She is learning house manners and is doing very well at it. She walks well on a leash and does not seem overly concerned with her surroundings. She showed no signs of lunging or aggression when she saw a cat from afar or other dogs at the vet clinic. She really loves people and wants all their attention. She was a staff favorite at the shelter she came from. She has constant tail wags when she is with humans. Athena does not mind the company of other animals but also could possibly do well as an only pet or other animals of similar chill energy. Athena is HW positive but has already started on treatment. She is VERY treat and food motivated and loves snack and meal time. She has a lot of love to give someone who has a laid back lifestyle, likes casual walks, and is looking for an oversized couch potato. We transport our dogs up North and out of Texas. Boxer
A.K.A.: Deutscher Boxer, German Boxer, Dutch Boxer, Boxer dog, Boxy, Boxerman
Overview:
The Boxer is a medium-sized, short-haired dog breed of German origin, known for its distinctive appearance and vibrant personality. Physically, Boxers possess a strong, athletic build with a characteristic square head, an undershot jaw, and often a docked tail and cropped ears (though these practices are becoming less common). Their short, glossy coat typically comes in fawn or brindle, often with white markings. Temperamentally, Boxers are renowned for being incredibly loyal, intelligent, and energetic, making them fantastic companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and can be playful and patient with children, making them excellent family pets. While their energy levels require regular exercise, their adaptability means they can adjust to apartment living if their activity needs are consistently met. However, potential owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to some cancers, heart conditions like cardiomyopathy, and hip dysplasia, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
