Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (short coat). Girlfriend is a beautiful little pocket pittie with stunning ears, warm brown eyes and who knows âsitâ and how to strike a pose. She was bouncy and happy to run around in the big run in the field and though she bounced through play, she wasnât jumpy ON me, not even when I crouched down to her level. She gave me a couple of quick chin kisses at that time and then redirected her attention to my treat pouch. Girlfriend quickly used the bathroom when she got outside and might have previously been house trained, in which case sheâd need only a refresher once getting to a new foster or adopted home! She does pull on the leash but mostly prior to our play in the run and less so after, and I bet that she would settle into a more neutral walking gait once she was getting regular walks and exercise. Girlfriend has participated in shelter playgroup in the `gentle dainty` grouping of dogs. Her notes indicate that she was `steerable, semi-engaged, nervous, curious, people-friendly and stayed close to her handler.` The shelter just started renovations to the room in which Girlfriend lives, and if she doesnât find a new home this weekend, she will be moving into a crate stacked in a room with lots of other dogs packed in together. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
