Description
Dog Breed: Pit Bull Terrier (medium coat). Peaches has already overcome so much - and now she's ready for the happy ending she deserves. When Peaches first arrived at the shelter, she was heartbreakingly thin. She was so hungry that she even ate a sock, just trying to fill her empty belly. Thankfully, those days are behind her. With lots of care, good meals, and time to heal, she's gained over 25 much needed pounds and is looking absolutely amazing. She also came to us already spayed, so it's clear she once had a family. Now she's hoping someone will give her that chance again. Peaches is always ready to head outside and have some fun. She'll happily lead the way to the play yard, where she's content to spend her time exploring every interesting smell. She's an independent lady who doesn't need constant entertainment, but she's always happy to stop for some gentle pets. She's a medium energy girl who isn't particularly interested in toys or treats, but she already knows several commands. If you have her attention, she'll happily sit, lie down, and even offer you a paw like the polite girl she is. Peaches has come so far since the day she arrived. All she needs now is someone to show her that she'll never have to wonder where her next meal - or her next act of kindness - is coming from again.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
