Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Enid is a reserved and well mannered dog who just wants a quiet home to relax and get well at. She was quiet and easy going at the shelter in Texas. She walks great on the leash, is easy to carry and work with and has been friendly with everyone she’s met. She is said to get along with other small dogs but gets defensive if a big dog is too rough with her. When Enid was surrendered the staff noticed right away her potbellied appearance and alopecia on her abdomen. She will be seeing the veterinarian now that she has been rescued by NorthStar - blood work is needed for a definitive diagnosis and treatment plan. The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers.
