Description
Dog Breed: Treeing Walker Coonhound. Hi there! My name is McKenna and I am a 4.5 month old Tree Walking Coonhound puppy! I am a sweet, curious, friendly, playful, affectionate and intelligent little puppy that can't wait to explore the world and sniff ALL the flowers! And grass... And gardens. And fences. And EVERYTHING. Anyways, I get along great with other dogs and kiddos, but please remember that I am a puppy so I can be a little nippy and mouthy until I learn otherwise! As we all know, I don't know how to teach myself tricks, manners or housebreaking, so I will need help with training! Don't worry though because I LOVE food and treats, so this will help make training a breeze! I was surrendered to the shelter with my sister, Mystery, and two other young adult hounds. Our owner had many awards and trophies in boar hunting with my ancestors, so I was bred to have a prey drive. Please remember this and do proper research before adopting me (and any dog!). AWL staff met my parents and they estimate I will be about 50lbs full grown! Please come see me! I would love to meet you!Give the shelter a call at (574) 267-3008 or email them at infoawlwarsaw if you have any questions about me! If not, stop by the shelter at 1048 S 325 E in Pierceton, IN 46562 to look at me! No appointments necessary!

Overview:
The Treeing Walker Coonhound, a breed originating in the American South, was meticulously developed for its exceptional ability to track and "tree" raccoons and other small game. Physically, they are athletic and elegant, showcasing a smooth, short coat typically in tri-color (black, white, and tan) or bi-color patterns, along with a distinctive long tail and expressive, often pleading, brown eyes. Weighing between 50-70 pounds, their lean musculature allows for impressive endurance. Temperamentally, they are known for being intelligent, friendly, and affectionate, making them wonderful companions. However, their strong prey drive and high energy levels mean they thrive in active homes with securely fenced yards; apartment living is generally not recommended due to their need for extensive exercise and a tendency to bay. While generally a healthy breed, potential owners should be aware of possible issues like hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as bloat. Their loving nature makes them suitable for active families willing to provide ample physical and mental stimulation.
