Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed. About Me Basil is a confident, affectionate puppy with a heart full of love and a tail that never stops wagging. She greets people, children, and new friends with happy excitement, usually approaching with her ears back and ready to soak up attention. After a good head scratch, Basil’s favorite way to say thank you is with plenty of puppy kisses. She’s incredibly snuggly and has earned the title of “professional cuddler,” often giving adorable little “roo” sounds when she wants more affection. Basil does well with kids, dogs, and cats. While she can be a little shy around much bigger dogs at first, it doesn’t take long before she decides they’re her new best friends. She loves being part of the action, whether she’s chewing on sticks, chasing her ball around the yard, helping with daily chores by following her humans everywhere, or enjoying training games and chew toys inside the house. When she’s tired out after playtime or zoomies, Basil is happiest relaxing beside her people in the sunshine. This smart girl is currently working on crate training, potty training, and leash skills. She enjoys having quiet downtime in her crate and responds well to continued structure and training. Basil is eager to learn and would thrive with a family committed to helping her build confidence and manners. With her intelligence, affectionate nature, and strong bond with humans, Basil has all the potential to become an amazing companion or even a wonderful support dog with the right training. Basil came from a northern reservation and arrived in mostly good condition, only needing a little extra weight and care. Now she’s ready to find a forever family who will continue helping her shine. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
