Description

Dog Breed: Australian Shepherd (medium coat). Welcome Annabelle to CCPAL Rescue. Annabelle is an Aussie mix is our best guess. She looks like he is mixed with something small. She is about 8 pounds now and should be medium sized full grown. We think 25-30 full grown. She is very sweet, has good eye contact and has a soft coat and down ears. Her coat is really soft. She is active and the group is vocal but not over the top. A person that does not work all day every day for 5 days a week is the best for a puppy. Someone that can work from home some or has partial days or some days off to spend to help your new puppy acclimate is best. You need time to be with your puppy to socialize them and to finish off their puppy training. Annabelle was very easy to handle taking his photos and she wasn’t afraid of new people and liked being held. She sat on the table with confidence while we worked with her. She is getting daily attention and holding at the Rescue. She is getting his DHPP vaccinations and dewormed. She is good in her play group. She is kenneled in the evening and is learning to go potty on a wee pad. She is currently at the CCPAL Rescue in Texas and can be adopted locally or we can work with one of the wonderful transporters to get her to Washington, Portland, Minnesota, Vermont or all along the East Coast. She would be fine with children. We like them to be 8 or older. Her adoption fee is $600 and transport is $200. Rhode Island and Massachusetts are not states we adopt to because of the regulations imposed by these states. Contact Marlene at 210-867-1769 or email to ccpalinquiriesgmail if you have questions. Australian Shepherd

A.K.A.: Aussie, Little Blue Dog, Spanish Shepherd, Pastor Vasco, New Mexican Shepherd, California Shepherd, American Shepherd, New Mexican Sheepdog, California Sheepdog, American Sheepdog, Australian Sheepdog
Overview:

The Australian Shepherd, despite its name, actually originated in the western United States during the 19th century, bred primarily for herding livestock on ranches. These striking dogs are medium-sized with a sturdy build, often sporting captivating merle coats (blue or red) and piercing blue, amber, or marbled eyes, sometimes with two different colors (heterochromia). Known for their exceptional intelligence and high energy, Aussies possess a strong work drive and thrive on having a "job" to do, whether it's agility, obedience, or extensive exercise. Their temperament is generally loyal, affectionate, and good-natured with their families, though they can be reserved with strangers. Due to their high exercise requirements and need for mental stimulation, they are best suited for active families or individuals with ample outdoor space and a commitment to training; apartment living is generally not ideal. Potential owners should also be aware of common health concerns like hip and elbow dysplasia and certain eye conditions, including Collie Eye Anomaly (CEA) and Progressive Retinal Atrophy (PRA).
