Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd (medium coat). Maverick is one of the handsome boys from our Harris County shelter pull and this sweet guy is ready for his fresh start. Right now he is extremely thin and needs to gain at least 10 pounds, but underneath those skinny hips is going to be one stunning dog once he fills out and gets all cleaned up. Based on his bright pearly white teeth, we think Maverick is only around 18 months old, maybe younger. Maverick has such a cool personality already. He isn’t overly hyper or wild, instead he seems like the kind of dog who truly wants a person to bond with. He wants someone to guide him, teach him new things, and just do life with him. Of course he’ll enjoy exercise and adventures, but he doesn’t seem like he’ll be “too much” for someone looking for a loyal companion. Honestly? Whoever ends up with Maverick is getting a really special dog. He has so much potential and we can’t wait to watch him blossom into the amazing boy we know he’s going to be. We are currently looking for a foster or adopter for Maverick! If you’d like to give this sweet boy the second chance he deserves, please head to .scoutshonor and apply today

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
