Dog Breed: Hound / Terrier / Mixed. Meet Midge a beautiful and lovable hound mix who is ready to find a family of her own. She is a brindle-coated hound mix, and she weighs about 59 pounds. Midge is about 4 years old and full of personality charm and affection. Midge has a sweet and friendly nature. She does well with other dogs and children which makes her a wonderful match for many different types of homes. Her experience with cats is unknown at this time. She is already housetrained and crate trained which will help make her transition into a new home much smoother. Her leash training is still in the works. Midge especially loves cheese which can make training both fun and rewarding. She has the typical hound bray instead of a bark so she would make an excellent alarm system for your home. It is important to remember that although she is housetrained, accidents can occur while adjusting to a new home environment. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
