Dog Breed: Hound / Mixed. A WONDERFUL YOUNG FRIEND: Approx. 10 months old / Approx. 31 lbs. & growing Hi there, I’m Mackenzie! I came to Mostly Mutts from animal control and I’m grateful to be here! I came in with a lot of fur loss due to neglect and possibly a former case of non-contagious mange. I’m receiving medicated baths and treatment for that and my fur is starting to grow back in. I also have a large bald patch along my back that may have been from a chemical or some other type of burn and we don’t know if I will grow fur back in that area. I may over time, but I also may not. Regardless, I’m a wonderful young dog that doesn’t let things get me down - looking for an amazing home! • OTHER DOGS/CATS/KIDS: I met other dogs at Mostly Mutts and liked them, so if you have a nice dog at home already, let’s meet! / Cats unknown. / I haven’t met kids yet at Mostly Mutts, so let’s meet and best no toddlers that I may bump over. • PERSONALITY/ENERGY LEVEL: I’m a lovely girl who just wants belly rubs, fun, love, and cuddles. The volunteers adore me because I’m such a sweetie pie with a calm, loving nature and lots of happy tail wags. Even with sore skin, I was patient, calm, and wonderful for all of my medicated baths while giving sweet kisses to my bather and handling everything with such a gentle spirit. I’m submissive, affectionate, active, and happiest when I’m close to my people, soaking up love and attention. / Energy level: 4-6. • SKILLS/CRATE/POTTY: I'm in the Mostly Mutts University training program and have already mastered the ‘sit’, ‘stay’, ‘leave it’, and ‘place’ commands and I look forward to learning even more. I’m new to leash walking and am starting to get the hang of that now. Let's continue my training together with the free lifetime training classes that Mostly Mutts offers for all their adopted dogs. / I’m doing well in my crate at Mostly Mutts. / I’ve been having accidents on the shelter schedule, so I’ll need my new family to help me with my potty training. • LIKES/DISLIKES: I love belly rubs, treats, toys, and having fun playing. Most of all, I really love people and being close to my humans! / I’m not a fan of going out in the rain and like all dogs, I’m sure I wouldn’t like it if I didn’t get enough love, attention, exercise, and training. • MEDICAL: I'm current on my annual vaccinations, micro-chipped and spayed. Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
