Description

Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (medium coat). Meet Rosie! ❤️ This pretty blonde Lab comes from the same property where we recently rescued three Doodles that had escaped. Concerned neighbors had been monitoring the situation for some time. The property's owner was breeding Doodles in the backyard. When he was jailed, two dogs were left behind - Rosie & Scottie. Animal Control stepped in to remove them and asked Worthy Dog Rescue to help. We're glad we were able to say yes; both are lovely pups. Rosie likely spent her entire life outdoors in a very rural area, with very little exposure to the world beyond her yard. She arrived underweight, timid, and unsure of everything around her. Since entering rescue, she's been slowly learning that people, homes, leashes, and everyday life can all be safe. To help build her confidence, we brought in a trainer to work on leash skills and navigating thresholds, and her foster family continues that work every day. Rosie is incredibly gentle, submissive, and conflict-avoidant. She gets along well with other dogs but is more of a quiet observer than the life of the party. A calm, confident dog in her forever home would be a wonderful role model. She's good with cats too. Rosie has excellent house manners. She's house-trained, non-destructive, and settling nicely into foster care. While she was initially afraid of the leash, walks have become one of her favorite parts of the day and a wonderful way for her to bond with her people. After nearly a month in foster care, Rosie continues to make steady progress. Her foster mom, Tamlynn, shared: "She opens up a little every day. She needs someone who loves to walk and will continue exposing her to new things. She's still hesitant to jump into the car, but once we help her in, she's fine. She takes comfort in our dog, Bodhi, and usually wants to go outside when he does. A few days ago, she ran around the yard for the first time—almost a zoomie! She now lies next to me and lets me pet her, so I know she's happy here." Rosie is likely not the dog who will greet you with tail wags and kisses at your first meeting. She'll likely be reserved and will need a patient adopter with the time and flexibility to help her continue building confidence and forming human connections. We believe she'll thrive in a quieter home with another confident, social dog to help show her the way. Beneath her cautious exterior is an incredibly sweet, loving dog who simply needs someone willing to give her the time, patience, and encouragement to blossom into the companion she's meant to be. ❤️ BREED ESTIMATE: Labrador Retriever GENDER: Female APPROXIMATE WEIGHT: 55 lbs APPROXIMATE AGE: ~ 2years old COAT TYPE: Short ADOPTION FEE: $425 OTHER INFO: UTD on shots/spayed/microchipped LOCATION: Vienna, VA FOR MORE INFO OR TO ADOPT: Please go to adopt.worthydog and complete the application. Overview:

The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
