Description
Dog Breed: Labrador Retriever (short coat). Meet Micah, an 87-pound goofball who wishes he could be a lap dog but will settle for being near his people. He was rescued off the streets but now is looking for a forever home. He is a great boy who's well mannered and very well trained. He does have allergies and does have a tickborne illness that is not active and does not bother him (at this time the vet says he does not need any medication for this issue). He is up to date on all his vaccines. Micah listens well and loves to play ball. He loves being involved in everything but he is skittish with loud noises. Micah was dumped twice and who knows if that is why he's so scared of loud noises but since being with a foster family, he has improved. Michael does well with other dogs. He is also good with chickens and rabbits (will sit and stay at a respectful distance without issue), and ignores horses. He seems to be good with cats (there is one in the house) but the cat is not a fan of dogs - so a dog-savvy cat should be totally fine. We have no idea how he is with children but as he is a big doofus, sturdier children are a must. He is an amazing dog and we can't say anything bad about him. He is also good in a house when left alone (not destructive at all) and is housetrained. Micah is currently being fostered in Hebron CT but can hitch a ride to a new home within a reasonable distance. Anyone interested can contact his current foster at teeshagrant25gmail for more information.

Overview:
The Labrador Retriever, a beloved and highly popular breed, originated in Newfoundland, Canada, where they were initially bred to assist fishermen by retrieving nets and stray fish. Physically, they are medium-to-large dogs, known for their strong, athletic build, short, dense, weather-resistant double coat (commonly seen in black, yellow, or chocolate), and their distinctive "otter" tail. Temperamentally, Labs are celebrated for their friendly, outgoing, and good-natured disposition, making them exceptional family companions. Their intelligence and eagerness to please contribute to their trainability, though they do require consistent exercise to prevent boredom and destructive behaviors. While adaptable, their energy levels make them more suited to homes with yards, or highly active families, rather than apartment living, unless daily extensive exercise is guaranteed. Regarding health, Labs can be prone to certain conditions like hip and elbow dysplasia, and some eye conditions, so responsible breeding practices are crucial. Overall, their loyalty, versatility, and affectionate nature firmly establish the Labrador Retriever as a wonderful addition to many households.
