Description
Dog Breed: Terrier / Mixed. Meet Hector! Formerly known as Clove, Hector is a 6-month-old mixed breed pup (possibly with a little Boxer mixed in!) who’s equal parts playful goofball and sweet cuddle buddy. He's currently 40 lbs and still growing, so he'll be in the medium to large range when fully grown. With his loving personality and eager-to-please attitude, Hector is quickly becoming everyone’s favorite sidekick. Hector is doing wonderfully with both potty training and crate training, and he’s proving to be a smart boy who listens well and enjoys learning. He’s very food motivated, so treats are definitely the way to his heart — though toys are a close second! Whether he’s tossing around a squeaky toy or zooming around the yard, Hector knows how to have fun. This happy pup gets along great with kids, cats, and other dogs, making him a wonderful fit for many different kinds of homes. Another dog in the home is not required, but he does love wrestling and playing with the resident dogs all day long. He’s affectionate, gentle, and always ready to hand out kisses to anyone willing to accept them. Like many curious teenage pups, Hector is still polishing up a few manners — especially when it comes to investigating what might be hiding on the countertops! But he’s eager to learn and responds well to guidance and consistency. If you’re looking for a sweet, playful best friend who’s eager to love and be loved, Hector may just be your perfect match. A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
