Description
Dog Breed: Shepherd / Mixed (medium coat). #A5770685 Meet Rosco , a 10-year-old German Shepherd mix with the face of a teddy bear and the softest, fluffiest honey-brown coat you could ever imagine. This sweet senior boy is incredibly affectionate and loves soaking up attention, happily leaning into you for pets and absolutely melting for a good booty scritch. Despite his age, Rosco still has plenty of pep in his step and would love to join his future family for walks, adventures, and playtime, especially if it ends with curling up beside his people afterward. Loyal, smart, and wonderfully well-mannered, he clearly knows his training and has so much love left to give. Sadly, Rosco was left behind when his family moved, but you’d never know it from his gentle spirit and loving heart. He truly is the total package deal - a devoted best friend just waiting for the forever home he deserves. Will that be with you? -10 year old brown German Shepherd mix -63 pound neutered male -may need the standard round of shots and preventatives before going home with you, but the shelter can likely help with this! -came to the Baldwin Park Animal Care Center on 4/18/26 as an owner surrender due to a move -was sadly surrendered by the only family he has ever known, but this hasn’t dimmed his loving heart or shining spirit at all! He is still as sweet, gentle, and willing to bond with his new forever family -don’t let his age put you off, he’s plenty energetic and always down for some fun! Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
