Description
Dog Breed: Boxer. Meet Ava! Ava is a 2 YO sweetheart coming into rescue as an owner surrender due to a serious illness in her family. This has been an incredibly difficult and loving decision, and Ava has been exceptionally well cared for her entire life. She’s a little peanut, weighing in at just about 40 lbs. She’s crate trained, housebroken, walks well on leash, and is wonderful in her home. Due to her shy nature, Ava absolutely needs a securely fenced yard, no exceptions. She can be a little timid when meeting new people, but you’ll be sure to see her boxer wiggle in no time! She loves other dogs and plays nicely with her pug siblings. She’s also fantastic with cats and has helped welcome many kitten fosters over the years. While she’s never lived with small children, she would do best with older kids in a quieter home, as busy environments can make her nervous. Ava is a truly special girl, and we can’t wait to help her find a new home who will welcome her with open arms, and where she can become part of the family! .chboxerrescue/adopt Available in the Northeast (NY, NJ, CT, RI, VT, PA, DE, MD, NoVA)

Overview:
The Boxer is a medium-sized, short-haired dog breed of German origin, known for its distinctive appearance and vibrant personality. Physically, Boxers possess a strong, athletic build with a characteristic square head, an undershot jaw, and often a docked tail and cropped ears (though these practices are becoming less common). Their short, glossy coat typically comes in fawn or brindle, often with white markings. Temperamentally, Boxers are renowned for being incredibly loyal, intelligent, and energetic, making them fantastic companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and can be playful and patient with children, making them excellent family pets. While their energy levels require regular exercise, their adaptability means they can adjust to apartment living if their activity needs are consistently met. However, potential owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to some cancers, heart conditions like cardiomyopathy, and hip dysplasia, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
