Description
Dog Breed: Boxer (medium coat). Thor is a two year old neutured Boxer-Pointer mix with a gentle soul an an adventerous spirit. While he may not show his best self behind kennel doors, that's not the real Thor- he simply needs a fair chance to meet people outside that stressful enviornment. With slow, proper introductions, a calm approach and a few tasty treats, he warms up beautifully and shows his affectionate, playful side. He's a high energy explorer who loves long walks, hikes and hunting for lizards. He's also shown to be playful with other dogs when introduced properly. Thor is looking for an active, patient family who are willing to go at his pace, earn his trust and give him the fair chance he deserves to shine! Meet him at Santa Barbara County Animal Services in Santa Maria at 548 W. Foster Road, open Tuesday-Sunday 10am-5pm.

Overview:
The Boxer is a medium-sized, short-haired dog breed of German origin, known for its distinctive appearance and vibrant personality. Physically, Boxers possess a strong, athletic build with a characteristic square head, an undershot jaw, and often a docked tail and cropped ears (though these practices are becoming less common). Their short, glossy coat typically comes in fawn or brindle, often with white markings. Temperamentally, Boxers are renowned for being incredibly loyal, intelligent, and energetic, making them fantastic companions for active families. They thrive on human interaction and can be playful and patient with children, making them excellent family pets. While their energy levels require regular exercise, their adaptability means they can adjust to apartment living if their activity needs are consistently met. However, potential owners should be aware of certain health considerations, including a predisposition to some cancers, heart conditions like cardiomyopathy, and hip dysplasia, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups.
