Description
Dog Breed: Australian Cattle Dog/Blue Heeler / Mixed. Carlisle, or "Carl" as his foster affectionately calls him, is the definition of a dog who just needed a chance. When Carl first arrived, he was cautious and unsure, preferring to quietly observe the world around him. Fast forward two week and he's already showing what an incredibly sweet and gentle soul he truly is. While he still takes a little time to warm up to new people, once he feels safe, he becomes your loyal shadow, quietly keeping track of where you are and checking in throughout the day. Carl has been thriving in a home with two confident cattle dogs who have taken him under their wings. They’ve taught him everything from the joy of afternoon naps on the couch to the excitement of zooming around the yard with friends. After about ten days in foster care, Carl finally joined in the fun and discovered just how enjoyable playtime can be. Now he loves running, chasing, and exploring alongside his canine companions. This handsome boy has also discovered some of life's finer things: lounging in the sunshine, relaxing in the air conditioning after a day outside, cuddling up with his dog friends for naps, and, perhaps most importantly, sausage treats. He has recently started showing interest in toys, though squeaky toys are still a little suspicious in his opinion. Carl is a smart and observant dog who learns quickly by watching others. He picked up the bell-training routine from the resident dogs and now uses the bells to let his family know when he'd like to head outside. He's gentle, curious, and thoughtful, preferring to take in his surroundings before jumping into new situations. Because other dogs have played such an important role in helping him build confidence, Carl is looking for a home with at least one friendly, confident canine companion. He would do best with patient adopters who understand that trust is something earned, not rushed. Given the space and time to continue blossoming, Carl rewards his people with quiet loyalty, sweet companionship, and the joy of watching him discover new things every day. If you're looking for a gentle-hearted dog who is ready to keep growing with the support of a loving family and a dog friend or two, Carlisle may be exactly who you've been waiting for. They were rescued from a shelter in New Mexico. Meet and greets are by appointment only. An approved application is required to schedule a meeting. Check out our events page for upcoming open adoption events! We have no additional back story or update for this dog at this time. When we do, it will be updated here. This is all the information we have currently. Approved Applicants may make the adoption fee payment by clicking donate above. Partial adoption fees will not hold a dog. If upon meeting the dog of your choosing at your scheduled pickup time you find that you aren't a good match, your deposit will be fully refunded. Adoption fees include vaccines up until time of adoption, microchip, spay/neuter and 1st 30 days of free pet insurance. We are not affiliated with MetLife pet insurance. (you have to sign up for the insurance or it will not go into effect). Adoption fees help cover the medical care of the animals while he or she waits for a new home, as well as food and transportation costs. These fees help to provide care for the other animals in the shelter or rescue group who may have medical bills that are much higher than any possible adoption fee. The money also acts as a donation to help support the organization as a whole, allowing the group to continue its efforts to rescue and rehome pets. The dogs in our care are fostered in Colorado, Texas, and New Mexico. While all dogs are picked up during our scheduled times, sometimes transport dates change due to unforeseen circumstances. Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
