Description
Dog Breed: Dutch Shepherd. Located in California After spending weeks in a shelter, we honestly weren’t sure what to expect when these boys arrived. What we’ve discovered is two incredibly resilient, social, and well-adjusted puppies who are settling into home life like champs. Both boys have shown impressive confidence around everyday life. Sirens, sprinklers, loud noises, baths, household activity, and new people have all been met with curiosity rather than fear. They’ve been friendly with everyone they’ve met and have handled new experiences with surprising maturity. Like many puppies who haven’t had much exposure outside their littermates, they can get excited when they see or hear other dogs. The good news? They redirect easily and have already made great progress. With continued positive socialization, we expect both boys to grow into wonderful companions. These two are smart, affectionate, playful, and already learning how to settle themselves down when playtime is over. They’re also learning important puppy skills like “the bathroom trash can is not a buffet” and “sticks are not more valuable than every toy in the house.” Progress is being made. Pim The life of the party Bold, confident, and full of personality Loves attention and prefers to be as close to his humans as physically possible Playful, affectionate, and always looking for his next adventure If there’s mischief happening, there’s a good chance Pim had the idea Noud More independent and happy to investigate the world on his own Gentle and thoughtful Affectionate without being demanding Perfectly content to lean against you for pets and companionship Our overall impression? Both Pim and Noud are shaping up to be wonderful family companions for homes that enjoy an active lifestyle. They’re the kind of puppies who make you smile every day, whether they’re inventing games, carrying sticks twice their size, or figuring out how to get into things they definitely shouldn’t. Breed overview
Holland Shepherd
A.K.A.: Dutch Shepherd, Dutchie, Hollandse Herder, Herder
Overview:
The Hollandse Herdershond, or Dutch Shepherd, is a versatile and intelligent breed originating from the Netherlands, where they were traditionally used by shepherds and farmers for herding and guarding livestock. Physically, they are a medium-sized dog with a powerful, muscular build, typically weighing between 50-70 pounds and standing 21-25 inches tall. Their coats come in three varieties: short-haired, long-haired, and wire-haired, all displaying the breed's distinctive brindle pattern in shades of gold or silver. Temperamentally, Dutch Shepherds are known for their strong work ethic, loyalty, and unwavering devotion to their families. They are highly trainable and excel in various dog sports like obedience, agility, and protection work. While generally good with children, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them better suited for active families with experience in dog ownership, rather than first-time owners or those in apartment settings. Like many active breeds, they can be prone to hip and elbow dysplasia, making responsible breeding and regular veterinary check-ups important for their long-term health.
