Description
Dog Breed: German Shepherd Dog (medium coat). If you're interested in adopting any SGSR dog, please read about our Adoption Process and fill out an Adoption Application. Visit our website for more information, including Frequently Asked Questions. Meet Kida! Kida is an 8-year-old German Shepherd girl with a shiny coat, a petite 55-pound frame, and an absolutely enormous love for her Chuckit ball. She came to Southeast German Shepherd Rescue as an owner surrender through no fault of her own. In just a few weeks she learned to sit patiently before heading out for walks, take treats gently from your hand, coexist peacefully with cats and a resident dog, and settle in for couch snuggles at the end of the day. She is smart, food motivated, and genuinely eager to please once she understands the rules. She picks up routines quickly and finds real comfort in structure and consistency. This girl is a velcro dog through and through. She wants to be wherever you are, doing whatever you're doing. In her defense though, she's the perfect size to take everywhere, with just enough energy for a ball session or a walk and then a long satisfying nap beside you on the couch. Kida is also completely unbothered by thunder, lightning, and the roar of fighter jets — no small thing for a dog living near a military base. Loud noises are a non-event for this girl. Fair warning - Kida has opinions about unattended kitchen counters and unsecured trash cans. A dog-proofed kitchen is her forever home's best friend. She also does best with older children and would thrive with an experienced dog owner who appreciates a girl who just needs to know what's expected of her. She is house trained, up to date on preventatives, and ready to find her person... someone who wants a loyal, ball-obsessed, treat-motivated velcro girl to share their couch and their life. Could that be you? Apply through Southeast German Shepherd Rescue today. Kida is fostered in Virginia Beach, VA. Our adoption process consists of a telephone interview, a call to your veterinarian and a home visit. If you have any questions about the adoption process please contact sgsrtreasurergmail .

Overview:
The German Shepherd Dog, a truly iconic breed, originated in Germany in the late 19th century, primarily for herding sheep. They are easily recognizable by their athletic, medium-to-large build, typically weighing between 50-90 pounds, with a distinct double coat that can be black and tan, sable, or solid black. Known for their intelligence and loyalty, German Shepherds possess a remarkably trainable and courageous temperament, making them exceptional working dogs in fields like police and service work. While generally good with families when properly socialized, their high energy levels and need for mental stimulation make them unsuitable for apartment living without significant daily exercise. Prospective owners should be aware of common health concerns such as hip and elbow dysplasia, as well as degenerative myelopathy, underscoring the importance of responsible breeding and regular veterinary care.
