Description
Dog Breed: Chihuahua (short coat). Adoption Fee: $300.00. Roxy is a precious tiny Chihuahua who came to us with the father of her puppy and her puppy. The father dog is 2-3 and Roxy is as well and the pup is 1 yr old. The owner was unable to keep them and after they were passed around a few times they landed here with us where they will be vetted, loved and good homes found for them :) She is sweet but we were told she doesn't like men :( However she has been introduced to several men volunteers and she loves them so I think it depends on the person and how gentle they are with her :) I think with very little work at all that could be changed and she will love everyone!! So far, she has loved everyone she has met here within a few minutes of pets and treats :) A ll of our adoptable animals are up to date on routine vaccinations, microchipped and spayed or neutered. If the animal is too young a certificate for the spay/neuter is included in the adoption fee. Please Click Here to complete our online adoption application. We are open to the public from 10 AM to 3 PM on the first three Saturdays of every month, unless otherwise noted on our website or Facebook page. Private appointments to visit and meet the animals can be scheduled with an approved application. For any questions about one of our precious animals, or to set up an appointment after you've submitted your application, please call us at (903) 949-6278. Texarkana Animal League is a 501c3 non-profit and all donations are tax deductible.

Overview:
The Chihuahua, a captivating breed known for its diminutive size, boasts an ancient and somewhat mysterious origin, with most theories pointing to Mexico as its birthplace, potentially descending from the "Techichi," a small companion dog of the Toltec civilization. Physically, they are easily recognizable by their small, compact bodies, large expressive eyes, and erect ears, appearing in both smooth and long-coated varieties, showcasing a vast array of colors and markings. Despite their tiny stature, Chihuahuas possess a big personality; they are often described as spirited, alert, and fiercely loyal to their owners, sometimes displaying a bold and confident demeanor. While their small size makes them exceptionally well-suited for apartment living, they thrive in homes where they receive ample attention and mental stimulation. They can be good family pets for older children who understand how to interact gently with a small dog, but their delicate build makes them less suitable for boisterous toddlers. Regarding health, Chihuahuas can be prone to certain conditions like patellar luxation, heart problems, and dental issues, making regular veterinary check-ups crucial for their well-being.
