Dog Breed: Yorkshire Terrier Yorkie. Adoption Fee: $950.00. Please contact Mark (mfranklin1921gmail), 973-908-0246 for more information about this pet. Scroll down to see more pictures of this dog. Trevor is available for adoption. He is 1 year 11 months old and weighs 5 lbs. His adoption fee is $950.00. Trevor is a very cute, 5 pound, almost 2-year-old Yorkshire Terrier. He came into SAY Rescue due to some health issues that his former owners were unable to manage and afford. This little firecracker endured a battery of tests, a diet change, constant monitoring and is expected to be one healthy handful of Yorkie. He is scheduled to undergo his neuter and have several teeth extracted on June 4th and with an expected full recovery, little Trevor will be ready for his furever home. Trevor loves people, dogs of all sizes and grown children (10 or older). He will need annual blood work done for the first couple of years to make sure his liver is functioning properly, but all tests completed so far have shown that the liver is doing its job. Trevor is also Lyme positive and is on a 28 day medication regiment that will eliminate that issue. Looking at the pictures of Trevor, he is small and very cute, but he is just as stubborn as he is cute. He does listen sometimes, knows how to sit, stay, speak and is learning how to properly walk on a leash. Don’t let the small size fool you. Trevor walks more than 2 miles almost every day. When he gets back home from the walk, he will play for a while with toys or my dogs and will then chew his kong till bedtime. He is a non-stop energizer Yorkie with a big attitude. He is also the loving pup that will curl up on your lap and have little puppy dreams, kicking his feet as he reenacts his day’s highlights. He does not cause any damage in the house but will tear up paper if left on the floor. This is more of an issue when he is left alone without people or my dogs. Because of this, Trevor should be in a home with a fenced in yard, be able to enjoy long walks, car rides and provide a warm nurturing lap when he finally gets tired. Trevor will require puppy training classes as do all of our dogs 2 or under. Since Trevor loves all friendly dogs, a household with another dog would be preferred and would prevent boredom if the humans need to leave the house for a while. Trevor is staying with Mark in Northampton, PA.

Breed overview
Overview:
A mongrel, mutt, or mixed-breed dog, is a dog that is not the result of breeding within an existing breed or to modify or create a breed and belongs to no breed. In the United States, the term "mixed-breed" is a favored synonym over "mongrel" among many who wish to avoid negative connotations associated with the latter term. The implication that such dogs must be a mix of defined breeds may stem from an inverted understanding of the origins of dog breeds. Pure breeds have been, for the most part, artificially created from random-bred populations by human selective breeding with the purpose of enhancing desired physical, behavioral, or temperamental characteristics. Dogs that are not purebred are not necessarily a mix of such defined breeds. Therefore, among experts and fans of such dogs, "Mongrel" is still the preferred term.
